Description
This course is designed to provide the student with a fundamental overview to the field of Nuclear Medicine Technology. The course is intended to be a basic study of the terminology, radiotracers, instrumentation, physics and radiation safety involved in Nuclear Medicine. It will allow the student to have a general knowledge of the activities of a Nuclear Medicine Department, to complement their first clinical experiences. The Nuclear Medicine Code of Ethics as well as the history of Nuclear Medicine will be discussed. Basic quality assurance/quality control measures will be introduced. The basic techniques of imaging procedures will be identified by presenting a section on Radionuclide Angiography. This course will prepare the student to advance to the Nuclear Medicine I, II and III level courses and must be taken in the Fall of year one in the major.
