Description

This course is for any world language teachers interested in teaching FLES, improving their FLES program, or simply in improving their WL teaching using FLES methodologies. Teachers and teacher candidates will learn about research in language acquisition and FLES instructional strategies and best practices. Participants will explore the creation and use of thematic units as well as appropriate materials for early language learners. Students will look at ways in which technology can enhance language learning and how performance assessments can drive instruction in a positive way. Readings will be shared from a core text, ListServs such as FLTeach and Nandut? and a variety of articles from professional journals such as The Language Educator, NECTFL Reports and Learning Languages. We will view excerpts from the video collection: Teaching Foreign Languages K-12: A Library of Classroom Practices and discuss the elements of sample lessons that make them great FLES classrooms.
