Description

(formerly SPA 144, 206 Hispanic Civilization II; formerly Culture and Civilization of Latin America)
This course offers the student an introduction to the cultures of Latin America from a variety of perspectives: its history, geography, society, arts, economy, popular culture, folklore, political and value systems, and, in a larger scope, its place in the global community. The course is an exploration of Latin America that goes back in time to study its cultural origins and historical evolution and to analyze the factors that have made Latin America what it is today: a pluralistic, multicultural and multilingual group of nations. Prerequisite: SPA 307 or Chairperson's approval.
