Description

(formerly SPA 143, 205 Hispanic Civilization I; formerly Culture and Civilization of Spain)
This course offers the student an introduction to the cultures of Spain from a variety of perspectives: its history, geography, society, arts, economy, popular culture, folklore, political and value systems, its role as a member of the European Union and, in a larger scope, its place in the global community. The course is an exploration of Spain that goes back in time in order to study its cultural origins and historical evolution and to analyze the factors that have made what Spain is today: a pluralistic, multicultural, and multilingual nation. Prerequisite: SPA 307 or Chairperson's approval.
