Description

This course is an introduction to mathematical modeling, a process of creating a mathematical representation of some phenomenon in order to gain a better understanding of that phenomenon. Examples range from creating models to study climate change as a result of increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to predicting the stock market. We will be using a computer software extensively to learn how to construct, interpret and validate various models (e.g. discrete dynamical and continuous stochastic systems). Prerequisite: MAT 222.
