This course will consist of an examination of the mathematics content and teaching strategies from the New York State Learning Standards for Seventh Grade, Eighth Grade, and Algebra 1. It will include the mathematics from both the Content and Process Strands. Unifying themes of problem solving, writing, and reading of mathematics, and the real-world applications will be presented. Mathematical topics that use technology (graphing calculator and computer) and those useful in teaching to a diverse and multicultural population will be explored including developmentally appropriate presentations of the topics. Guided by the State Standards, a content item analysis of the mathematics and question formats of the Grade 7, Grade 8, and Algebra 1 assessments will be reviewed.
