Description

The goal of this course is to support teachers in using their knowledge of action research and the research proposals written in EDU 547 to carry out an action research project. The research will require instructor approval, will be conducted in a classroom setting and will examine questions related to the New York State Learning Standards. Research questions should focus on teaching English to speakers of other languages and should help to answer the following questions: What is the relationship between methods of formal instruction and language acquisition? What tasks and patterns of classroom organization best facilitate second language acquisition? Examples of Specific topics for study might include: learner independence, listening strategies, the writing process, the nature of speaking, and cross-cultural aspects of reading comprehension.
