Description

This course will consist of an examination of the curriculum goals, instructional strategies and materials for teaching mathematics to the diverse learner in grades one to six. It will emphasize teaching methods for making mathematics meaningful to children by promoting an active learning process. The teacher candidate will develop learning experiences and conduct assessment reflecting the processes of growth and development of child and pre-adolescent. Attention will be given to planning and teaching mathematical tasks and activities for students who are culturally diverse; those with limited English proficiency, and those with special needs. Also, the teacher candidate will learn how to use manipulatives to develop concepts and utilize instructional technology, including the calculator and computer.
