Description

Writing-Intensive Course
This course focuses on critical issues, policies and trends in the field of Early Childhood Education (birth?grade 2). Analysis of current issues pertinent to young children, their families and early childhood educators will be discussed along with federal, state and local policies. The New York State Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core will be reviewed including its five domains: Approaches to Learning; Physical Development and Health; Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; and, Cognition and Knowledge of the World. An introduction to developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood as a performance-based assessment will be provided. Site visits and guest presenters offer a hands-on understanding of the early childhood profession, advocacy strategies and resources available to assist the teacher in meeting children's needs.
